My wonderful granddaughter Lydia has been living with Type I Diabetes (T1D) for 11 years. She is 15 now and has told me many times, I don't remember my life before T1D, I wish I could! She is my main reason for being so passionate about JDRF and their funding of research. I have such respect for Lydia with her perseverance, faith and courage in managing her T1D. She does not have the luxury of forgetting about her Diabetes! Never a day off!
It is difficult to "put" oneself in the shoes of a person with T1D. There is no way we can fully appreciate what they deal with day in and day out. No matter how much we want to help, the reality is they eventually have to assume the responsibility of attending to the burdens of Diabetes themselves.
JDRF has funded research for many of the technologies Lydia uses today. Insulin pump, CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor), new and better insulins and hopefully in the near future a "bionic" pancreas. None of these tools would have been possible without research and research is not possible without donations. Thank you to all of you who have donated in the past.
As a member of the Oklahoma Chapter Board of Directors and a member of the Promise Ball Committee, I am asking you to please consider donating to our 2018 event, for Lydia's future and the future of everyone living with Type 1 Diabetes. A heartfelt thank you from Lydia and me.
JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Our mission is to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications. To accomplish this, JDRF has invested $2 billion in research funding since our inception. We are an organization built on a grassroots model of people connecting in their local communities, collaborating regionally for efficiency and broader fundraising impact, and uniting on a national stage to pool resources, passion, and energy. We collaborate with academic institutions, policymakers, and corporate and industry partners to develop and deliver a pipeline of innovative therapies to people living with T1D. Our staff and volunteers in more than 100 locations throughout the United States and our six international affiliates are dedicated to advocacy, community engagement and our vision of a world without T1D.
